I've never seen Belize like THIS before

I feel so incredibly lucky to have been invited to go on a helicopter tour over to Victoria's Peak (the second highest elevation in Belize) and the 1,000 Foot Falls (which is actually 1,600ft and the tallest in Central America) on the mainland today.

I took well over 100 pictures- everything is so green and lush and beautiful- so this is another one of those blogs where I pretty much just shut up and share my photos with you...

Me with the Fosters, ready to go

                 Above San Pedro

       A split in the reef...and a boat

Coming up on Caye Chapel, the private golf resort island

       Another tiny, tiny private island

Getting closer to Belize City, a bunch of small, uninhibited islands

             Approaching Belize City

It actually looks pretty from up here

                    A sunken ship

Mainland! I always wonder how many of those mounds and hills have Maya ruins under them...

The Coastal Highway.... which is a dirt road, not a highway at all. And it doesn't run along the coast, either. I think it needs a new name.

Trees trees trees!! Look at all that GREEN!

               A river down below

Crossing the Hummingbird Highway, above the village of Middlesex - not far from where I used to live

              The Stann Creek River

      A random, nameless waterfall

It got chillier, the higher into the clouds we went...

The humps of Victoria's Peak coming up

Back out into the lower mountain valleys

               Mountain Pine Ridge

There she is- the 1,000 Foot Falls

I think this is where we were when our pilot said, "Oh shit." Yeah.... freaked me out a little bit and I started wondering how well I'd survive in the jungle with only a pair of flip-flops on, but he pulled out of the trade winds and got us where we needed to be. Small heart attack, no biggie.

          Another nameless waterfall

A Menonite community up in the hills

                           So cool

   Back over the Hummingbird HighWay

             Back over the flat lands

Over some fields of citrus with the fish farm in the distance

A little farming village on the river

                  Back over the city

                  And over the sea

                        San Pedro

      San Pedrito, my old neighborhood

I can't say Thank You enough to Bob and Michelle for inviting me to tag along on their father-daughter helicopter tour. That was so generous and awesome of them.... and the whole trip (about 2 and a half hours) made me miss the mainland even more than I already do. This country is AMAZING!
