My First Stitches

I dropped a beer bottle on my foot at work last night and it smashed and sliced me open pretty good.

When I woke up this afternoon, my toes were all sticky and blood covered, so I went downstairs to see my landlord and get his opinion on what to do....
He called me a taxi and told me to go see a doctor.

At 35 years old, I got my first 5 stitches!

So, here's the part I'm writing for the people who ask questions about the cost of medical care and stuff down here:

The doctor visit, stitches, and tetanus shot cost me $50bz ($25us) and the prescriptions for Amoxicillin, ibuprofen, and Tramadol cost $29bz ($14.50us)

I'll spare you all the gore- but I just walked home and realized that it started bleeding again....

It's totally making me nauseous and I know I shouldn't be moving around too much because the cut is on a very bendy part of my toe... So I'll just be home, resting and trying not to look at it.
Cleaning it tomorrow is sure to make me throw up.

My early morning walk

I don't get up early, ever, which is why, up until this morning, I had never before seen a sunrise in San Pedro.

Since I have a harder time than usual falling asleep these days, though, I was still awake at 5am and decided to go for a little stroll into town for some coffee.

The clouds were cotton candy pink when I first stepped outside

I'm thinking I should have gone out around 4:45 instead of 5:15 to see more colors in the sky, but it was still pretty...

While I was sitting there, trying to remind myself that life doesn't always suck, I noticed all these tiny, pretty little seashells...

I was planning on just grabbing some coffee and coming back home to sleep, but changed my mind and stopped in the Blue Cafe for breakfast

I was admiring this adorable boat- daydreaming about stealing it and spending the day out at sea- when the owner (I assume) showed up and took it away from me

While I was there, I also saw this cute dog who, I think, could have been Keanu's daddy:

Big pointy ears, same color, and a skinny but- just like my sweet little puppy :(

Here's my favorite picture from this morning- one I didn't think would turn out well since I just pointed my camera towards the sun and took a shot:

I like being out and about that early in the morning- the town is quiet and peaceful...
Maybe I should start thinking about switching my sleep schedule around, if I ever get back to sleeping regularly....

Boat Days... just what I need.

I still haven't worked up the courage to learn how to dive yet - but I was able to tag along on a dive trip on Monday morning and just hang out on the boat while the tourists and dive masters went down to explore the underwater sights.

The boat captain and other dude that stayed on the boat probably thought I was super boring - but just being out there on the water and being away from everything for a few hours is exactly what I wanted to do. I wasn't interested in conversation and didn't want to be entertained by anyone... I just wanted to breath.

I wasn't thinking about blogging, either- I was trying not to think about anything, really- so I didn't take many pictures... but here are the three that I did;

R.I.P Keanu

I had a little puppy.... 3 months old.... Cutest little thing.

6 nights ago she was beaten so badly by a local guy that I had been seeing that I had to have her put down.

The penalties for animal abuse are a joke in this country- even though he pleaded guilty, he does NO jail time for what he's done.

Rest in peace, little Keanu - i loved you so much, my big eared schmuppy.

Rain = Mud

The worst thing about the rainy season is obviously the mosquitoes - or, as I call them, the "evil mothersucking mosquitoes."

The second worse thing about rainy season is showing up to work with the back of your legs covered in mud from the flip of your flip-flops....

Luckily, I have the Caribbean Sea right in front of my place of employment, so I can rinse off before my shift :)

Major slacking going on over here

I just realized that I only posted ONE time in all of June. It made me kind of sad- I loved writing this blog when I was living on the mainland.
Maybe it's because I was always going somewhere different or doing something new and I always had something to say...
Here in San Pedro, I really don't DO much. I work 5-6 nights a week and spend my days sleeping in and catching up with friends on Facebook.... not the most thrilling things to post about.

(It's also been difficult to post without having a laptop that works like its supposed to and no reliable Internet connection at home, but I'm working on that.)

I've decided, though, that I want to start getting back into the blog - so, once I figure out the Internet at home, look for at least two or three new posts a week. I'm not promising that they'll be interesting or anything.... but I'll try to come up with something to tell you about.

In the meantime.... You can like my Facebook page (letters to my friends, just search for it) and follow me on Instagram (zimzalabelize) to keep up with the little bits and pieces of my life.

See ya soon...
